Camera Issues

I have to say that I am having some issues with my camera.  I cannot seem to get it to take good outdoor pictures! The lighting ends up being all wrong and not capturing any of the colors correctly in the outfit.  The first bunch of pictures I took with my Portrait camera setting and had the flash set = totally washed out pictures. Then I switched the setting to Landscape, no flash and that helped a little bit, but not much.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work a point & shoot's settings so that I don't keep running into these issues? Do I just need to read my manual more thoroughly?

Anyway - this first photo is the best one out of the bunch that I got today.  I also don't know what's up with my fake-looking smile in the rest of the photos.  Perhaps I need some Tyra Top-Model lessons - not so I can be a Top Model - just so I can get some decent, non-fake looking pictures!  You would think after all the ANTM marathons I have watched, I would have figured out how to "smile with my eyes".

See what I mean? Weird smile going on...

And notice the way that the lighting is so ridiculous here?

I LOVE these shoes.  Originally they were on Piperlime for $80...and then when I found them in my local TJMaxx for $35, it was like manna from heaven.  Well, maybe not quite like that, but still, it was awesome.  They may be a 1/2 size too big for me, but hopefully I'll be able to find some shoe inserts to help with that! But aren't they just beautiful?  They're like a beautiful, bright watercolor painting - but on my feet!

Dress - Banana Republic
Sweater, Headband, Belt - J.Crew
Shoes - AK Anne Klein via TJMaxx

Yo diggity. Take your pictures w/out flash and set the white balance to the kind of weather you're having -- all cameras have this -- cloudy, sunny, florescent lighting, tungsten, etc. That should help the colors.
